Anna starting taking snaps, as she calls them, when she was a very young child. She developed her first roll of film and processed her first black and white print when she was eight years old, and she's been hooked ever since.
Anna majored in photography/studio art, political science and environmental studies as an undergraduate student and used photography as a storytelling medium while completing her masters degree in environmental studies. She has worked for universities and businesses in several darkrooms as a teachers' assistant and manager. She has done quite a bit of editing, printing, spotting, and image consulting for hire. She and her husband Tim Peterson have been involved in many gallery shows, public art exhibitions, and publications. They have taken photos for corporate and non-profit events, weddings, family portraits, and individuals' photo sessions.
When not taking snaps, Anna spends time outside in and around the Four Corners area working on her garden and art projects. Anna is the president and founder of Conservation Communications, a communications firm that works with non-profits, corporations, and small businesses to expand their reach, power, and change-making abilities to win campaigns. She is also the Executive Director of The Mountain Pact and works with local elected officials across the Western U.S. on federal public lands and climate issues. She has worked professionally for more than 20 years with a range of groups on campaigns focused on corporate social responsibility, anti-sweatshop, human rights, immigration, public health, wilderness, 1872 mining law reform, smoke-free communities, food safety, and climate issues. She previously interned with the late Senator Paul Wellstone and Global Exchange, and has worked with Alaska Wilderness League, The Alaska Coalition, National Environmental Trust, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, M+R Strategic Services and Pew Environment Group. From 2011-2017, Anna was the Director of Operations, Finance and HR with Durango-based Verde Brand Communications. Anna served two terms on the San Juan Citizens Alliance Board of Directors and is on the board of the Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado where she organizes Durango’s monthly Green Drinks events and local sustainability events calendar.
